About the Journal

Focus and Aim

The DBS Applied Research and Theory Journal is an international open access and double-blind peer-reviewed academic journal which serves as a platform for advancing high quality applied research that focuses on practical application across multiple disciplines. The journal focuses on research that addresses real-world problems and delivers actionable outcomes. Our scope encompasses the following academic fields: 

  • Business, including Finance and Economics, Marketing and Consumer Behaviour Enterprise and Innovation, Service Chain Management, and Technology
  • Information Science, including Artificial Intelligence and Computing
  • Social Sciences, including Psychology and Social Research
  • Educational Practice and Theory

We welcome original research articles, case studies, opinion pieces, book reviews, and conference reports that contribute to the development of practical knowledge. The journal encourages submissions from an international cohort of academics, practitioners, and students, fostering a collaborative environment for applied research that informs policy, practice, and technological advancement. The journal's readership includes interdisciplinary academics, industry professionals, and students.

Peer Review Process

All submissions are initially assessed by an editor, who decides whether articles are suitable for academic review and/or publication. Suitability is assessed in relation to the focus and scope of the journal and the article type.

Suitable articles for review are assigned to a minimum of one reviewer including guest reviewers. Submissions are assessed for their clarity, methodology and validity. Authors submissions that are not sent foward for review will be provided with feedback.

Academic review is strictly anonymous, meaning that reviewers are not known to authors and vice versa.

Publication Frequency

DBS Applied Research and Theory Journal is published annually.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

All articles published in the journal are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License

Users have the right to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles published in DBS Applied Research and Theory Journal

Publication Ethics Policy

DBS Applied Research and Theory Journal is guided by the highest standards in publication ethics as outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics. More information is available the COPE page.

Name Change Policy 

The DBS Applied Research and Theory Journal can assist previously published authors who have changed their name due to personal circumstances. Authors can contact the journal to update their published record, and the staff will handle all requests confidentially, ensuring changes are made swiftly and accurately.

Retraction Policy

This serves to inform its readership of any instances of research misconduct discovered post-publication. Such misconduct includes, but is not limited to, plagiarism or self-plagiarism, data fabrication, duplicate publication, inaccuracies in author listings, serious errors in data, and falsified data.

Cases warranting retraction will be subject to investigation by the editorial board. Authors will be provided with an opportunity to present their case. The editorial board reserves the right to initiate retraction procedures regardless of author consent.

Depending on the nature and severity of the infraction, the following actions may be taken:

  1. An erratum or correction may be issued in conjunction with the article, detailing the reason for the erratum or correction.
  2. An editor's note or editorial expression of concern may be appended to the article.
  3. In severe cases, a retraction may be issued with the article, specifying the reason for retraction.
  4. The institutional affiliations of the authors will also be notified.
  5. Author's submissions will be refused for a specified period.

Relaunch

In 2023, the DBS Business Review underwent a relaunch as the DBS Applied Research and Theory Journal. This marked a move away from a sole focus on business articles and broadened to all academic disciplines which allow for a practical application of research.  Previous volumes of DBS Business Review can found here
